The Day in the Life of the Brenda Protocol

Let’s reverse age together! Over six years ago, I knew I was leading an unhealthy lifestyle and I thought I had no way of getting out of the downward spiral.  I was sick, tired, fat, my skin was dry and wrinkled. I was spiritually unwell and emotionally unhappy. Are you sick of being sick and tired? At 55 years old, I now feel younger than I ever did. Is reverse aging possible? You betcha! Zero doubt. If I can do it so can you! I am excited for you! Let’s begin together!

For many years, I lived with undiagnosed Lyme disease. I was taking large amounts of Gabapentin, ibuprofen and acetaminophen to dull the stabbing pain in my arms and legs. Emotionally, I was battling the powerful medical community to solve the mystery of being misdiagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis for a decade. I was eating a diet full of salt and fat and I was drinking alcohol on a daily basis. I felt old in my late forties...exhausted and mentally unclear.

I made significant life changes including a deep dive into all things diet.  What I learned is if you change your perspective, you can look at food as your medicine. Everything we consume aids in whether our bodies have the nutrients to build and repair our cells or contribute to our decline.

A diet change is discipline. It needs to be consistent. But guess what? A healthy diet, when accomplished through discipline and consistency, will become a part of your routine you cannot live without. With consistency you will begin to feel better, and it will build on itself.

Join me! You have only a new life to embrace. A life where you will physically watch yourself reverse age as you are able to complete tasks that seemed daunting before. A life where you feel pride in yourself and your accomplishments. A life your people can be proud to be around. A life to inspire others.

Put your armor on and let’s get to war on behalf of your body.

Beauty starts on the inside

Before you wake up and smell the coffee, drink your juice. Well, your 16 ounce glass of water with your two tablespoons of organic lemon juice. I love the Santa Cruz lemon juice! It is a treat and done consistently will act as a diuretic and start your digestion off on the right track...no pun intended.

Breakfast

Breakfast is not only the meal where you “break” your “fast” but the ideal meal to use food as your medicine. There are so many good things to put in your oatmeal it makes my food as medicine motto easy!  I keep my diet simple and clean and consistent.  Every morning, I have a bowl of steel cut oats and every morning I actually crave those added ingredients.

Consistency is the key to repairing damage and maintaining energy throughout the day. Starting with oatmeal eliminates toxins in your body first thing due to its high fiber content. Fiber, especially the insoluble type found in steel cut oats, can act like a “scrub brush” for the gut, aiding in digestion and removing toxins that may be in the intestines. Specifically, Beta glucan, has been shown to bind to certain toxins, including “PFA’s (forever chemicals),” and promote their elimination

Blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and dark red cherries are rich in anthocyanins and may reduce the risk of heart disease and types of cancers. Anthocyanins have been found to reduce inflammation and research suggests this little super ingredient may also improve cognition in older adults and boost insulin resistance in people with diabetes.

Think of reverse aging not just for your body but also for your mind!

If I am confident the berries I purchase are fresh picked and pesticide free, fine! However, if not I choose frozen berries. They are convenient, easily stored, low in calories and have a rich nutritional profile.  They provide Vitamin C and fiber. The freezing process preserves their national content, including their antioxidant properties.

I eat a half of banana cut up in my oatmeal along with the berries. Bananas offer several health benefits, including aiding digestion, supporting heart health and managing blood sugar levels. They are a good source of potassium, fiber, and vitamins, making them a nutritious addition to a balanced diet. Bananas can also help with weight loss and provide sustained energy.

Let’s add flaxseed to keep with the tradition of reduced inflammation, cancer fighter and fiber filler. But, not so fast, these small but powerful seeds are packed full of Omega 3 fatty acids which also aid in cognitive function, skin appearance, liver health and weight management.

Chia seeds add another powerful little punch. Chia is full of omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants and various minerals like calcium, magnesium and phosphorus which can support bone health, reduce inflammation, and protect against chromic diseases.

Kefir is a fermented milk drink and is rich in probiotic content. Our health begins in our gut and kefir is the rockstar ingredient to aid in gut health. Did I mention its delicious and comes in lots of different flavors? So change your profile flavor or go unflavored but take care of your gut!

Cinnamon is yummy! It has anti inflammatory properties but did you know it also has natural antimicrobial spice that can help combat bacteria, fungi and viruses.

Let’s put it all together!

  • 1/4 cup steel cut oats....organic and pesticide free

  • 1 cup blueberries

  • 1 cup mixed strawberries/cherries or blackberries

  • 2 tbs. flax seeds

  • 1 tbs. chia seeds

  • 1/2 cup kefir

  • 1 tbs cinnamon

And there you have it! You have put your armor one layer at a time and are ready to go to battle for yourself today. Battle so you can be the best to help battle for others in your life.  You have accomplished a great deal with your lemon juice and bowl of oatmeal goodness. You have started your day with proper digestion, ingredients to regulate your blood sugar and help your cholesterol. You have aided yourself in gut health and received powerful antioxidants and anti inflammatory nutrition.

And your pride in executing this small decision to eat properly will only build on itself throughout the day. Go get that pride and let your smile be contagious. People will start to ask you about your smile…your happiness and trust me that encouragement will feel like gold!
